When asked what "Obsessions" was about, Diamandis said:
“ | Sonically, ["Obsessions"] is very bare and exposed. It was my first single. I supposed [it is a sad, dark song]. It's about a relationship, but as with every song it's about two or three different stories and things...Everyone has obsessions and that's why I think people really related to the song very early on. | ” |
—Marina Diamandis, iTunes[2] |
Marina performed the song at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, United Kingdom on May 30, 2010.
The music video for "Obsessions" was directed by Tim Brown[3] and released onto YouTube on 25 December 2008.[4] The music video show Diamandis assembling a metal diamond with numerous LEDs attached to each bar. It was filmed in front of a white screen similar to its b-side's music video for "Mowgli's Road". At the end, the camera aligns itself to reveal the diamond with the LED lights glowing. Diamandis based the music video on the children's television show Art Attack.[5]
